Today marks 1 year since I published my first blog post (happy 1st blog birthday!), and we are celebrating by officially moving to our own website. Yes, this is the official first post that will be published from www.treatmesweetlie.co.za and I am beyond proud of my little accomplishment. (I just had to type the website address out in full because I still cannot believe that this is MY little corner of the internet).
My website is far from complete as I am trying to configure everything by myself. There are many little bits that I am not happy with, and there are even more bits that I feel are missing. But it’s okay, because this is part of my blog journey and I will get there (eventually!).
I must admit, it was a terrifying experience – purchasing my own domain. It felt (and still feels) like such a huge commitment to myself and my readers. But with the encouragement from a friend and fellow blogger Lindsay Leigh Thomas (follow her blog – it is awesome!), I took the plunge and finally did it. I am still afraid, but like with everything else I commit to, I am in it with no other aim but to make it a great success.
I started blogging when my little girl was 10 weeks old. I finally came up for air from what was the most challenging 10 weeks of my life, and I wanted to share my experience with all you. I was, and still am, amazed at how often mothers chose to not speak up about the challenges of adjusting to motherhood. I really wished that someone had prepared me for what was about to happen, and my hope was that through this blog I was able to be that person for you. And without even realising it, I was able to capture moments of my life that I would not have otherwise been able to remember and transpose to my little girl when she is older one day (IA!). This has become my personal online space, and even though I may not always have time for it, it feels really great to be able to call it my own.
That brings me to the most important lesson I have learnt since I started blogging – and that is that there are only 24 hours in a day and it is only possible to do that much in one day. Being a mommy, wife, full-time employee, business owner and blogger makes 24 hours quickly shorten into 12. I have learnt that there are certain aspects of my life that are more important than others and it is vitally important for me to spend time on the things that matter the most. As I approach the big THREE-O (gosh, that is happening soon, eeek!), I realise more and more that I need to surround myself with the things that make me happy, bring me satisfaction and serenity. I guess this is all part of growing up, aging, maturing or simply growing into motherhood.
So I thank you! I thank each and every one you that has taken time out of your 24 hours to read and engage with my blog and social media pages. I thank you for supporting me through my journey of motherhood and my journey of blogging and sharing in my first blog birthday.
I look forward to another year of sharing my personal online space with you!
